One printer.
Every device in the building.
Run one command on the computer your printer is plugged into. After that, every laptop, Chromebook and phone on the network can print Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDFs and photos from a browser. Or press Add to this device and print from any app. They see a live preview and choose paper, margins, colour and more first.
The printer's computer does the printing. Everyone else just uses a browser.
A printer only works from a computer that has its driver. Many old printers only have a Windows driver, so Macs, Chromebooks and phones can't use them. School Printer lets the computer with the driver print for everyone.
Install once
On the computer the printer is plugged into, paste one command. It finds the printer, starts with the computer every time, and puts an admin shortcut on the desktop.
Open the address
On any other device on the same network, type the address shown on the admin page, like http://192.168.1.20:8631. There's nothing to install.
Preview, adjust, print
See every sheet exactly as it will come out. Change the paper, margins, orientation, colour or pages per sheet, then press Print. Nothing goes over the internet.
Set up the printer's computer
Do this only on the computer the printer is connected to. First, check that it can already print a test page.

- Already in PowerShell on Windows 10 or 11? The shorter one does exactly the same thing.
- Click Yes when Windows asks for permission. The install continues in a new window with a progress bar.
- If there's more than one printer, type the number of the one to share. When it finishes, the admin page opens.

- If Windows shows "Windows protected your PC", click More info → Run anyway.
- Unzip it on the printer's computer and open Terminal in the SchoolPrinter folder.

About a minute, start to finish
The installer checks every file it downloads against its fingerprint, then sets up the service, firewall and shortcut.
Nothing to learn
Double-click “School Printer (Admin)”
The shortcut is on the desktop. The admin page shows the address for everyone else and has a switch to open or close printing. It also shows the printer's status and recent prints, lets you set an optional PIN and the language, and has buttons to print a test page or clear stuck jobs. It only opens on that computer.
Type the address
Use the exact address shown on the admin page. Choose a PDF or photo, set the number of copies, and press Print. It works in Safari, Chrome, Edge and Firefox, on computers and phones. Press Add to this device to add the printer to Windows or a Mac and print from any app.
Every printer and scanner in the school, at one address
Up to 50 printers, one network
Install School Printer on every computer that has a printer or a scanner. They find each other on the school network by themselves — nothing to type — and share the work: each job goes to the printer with the shortest queue that can print it (colour, two-sided, paper size).
One address for the whole school
The stations elect a main station by network speed and free computer power, and everyone uses its address. If the main station is switched off, another takes over within a few seconds; when a stronger computer joins or comes back, or every five minutes if the main one gets busy with other work, they choose again. The chosen computer shows a pop-up so whoever sits at it knows to keep it on.
Pick a printer, or let it choose
Press Print and choose Resource efficient (the least busy printer) or a specific printer and office from a list. The page tells you where to pick it up. If that computer or its printer fails in the middle, the job moves to another printer by itself.
Scanning
Scanners and multifunction printers are found automatically, and a PC with only a scanner can join too. Choose the scanner, resolution (DPI), colour and format, and download the result as PDF or image from any device. A scan always runs on the scanner you chose — your paper is in that one.
Public or private network, encrypted
By default every station joins the school’s public printer network. A station can instead start a private network: its admin page shows a one-time code (valid 15 minutes, used once) that another station types to join. Everything between stations is encrypted and sealed, so nobody in the middle can read, change or replay it.
A school address like print.school
Set a name on any admin page and point the router’s DNS at the School Printer computers: every device can then type that name to reach the main station, wherever it is right now.
Light, private and always on
No installs on other devices
Any device with a browser can print, including ones with no driver for the printer.
Print from any app
On the print page, press Add to this device. Windows and Mac add School Printer with their own built-in driver, so it shows up in the Print dialog of Word, Chrome, Photos and every other app. Nothing extra is installed.
Only on your local network
The firewall rule only lets in devices on your local network. Files go straight from the device to the printer's computer and are deleted after printing.
Optional PIN
Turn on a PIN from the admin page so only staff can print. Each device remembers it after it's typed once.
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, photos
Also text files, CSV, RTF and OpenDocument. Office files are turned into PDF on the printer's computer by Microsoft Office or LibreOffice, so they keep their exact layout.
True print preview
Every sheet is drawn exactly as it will print, using the same layout maths the printer's computer uses. Margins, orientation, black & white and pages per sheet show up as you change them.
Real printer settings
You can set copies and page ranges. Paper sizes come from the printer's own list, and the rest is orientation, colour or black & white, two-sided (if supported), margins, fit or actual size, and 1, 2 or 4 pages per sheet.
Persian and English
The print and admin pages come in فارسی (right-to-left) and English. The admin page sets the default, and anyone can switch with the فا / EN button.
Starts by itself
It runs in the background from the moment the computer starts, even before anyone signs in, and restarts itself if it ever stops.
Questions
Why do I run the command on the printer's computer, not on the other devices?
That computer is the only one with the printer's driver, the software that turns a document into something the printer understands. The install command turns it into a small print server. Every other device only needs a browser to send it files, and it prints them with its own driver. So you install once, on one computer, and nothing anywhere else.
Can I print from Word or any other app, without the browser?
Yes. Open the print page and press Add to this device. On Windows it adds the printer with the built-in Microsoft IPP driver (or download Add School Printer.cmd and double-click it). On a Mac or Linux, paste the one-line command it shows into Terminal. After that, School Printer appears in every app's Print dialog. Phones and tablets keep using the print page.
Which computer should be the printer's computer?
Use the one the printer is plugged into by USB, as long as it can print a test page. If the printer only has a Windows driver, as many old printers do, that has to be a Windows PC. The computer needs to stay on while people print.
Can I print Word, Excel and PowerPoint files?
Yes, as long as the printer's computer has Microsoft Office or the free LibreOffice. On Windows, Office files print while someone is signed in on that computer, because Microsoft Office only runs for a signed-in user. PDFs and photos always work. For Google Docs, use File → Download → Microsoft Word or PDF, then print that file.
Will the printout really look like the preview?
Yes. The preview and the printer's computer use the same layout maths: the same paper size, the printer's own unprintable edge, the same margins and scaling. Word, Excel and PowerPoint files are converted to PDF before you see the preview, so you see exactly what will be printed.
Other devices can't open the address.
Check three things. First, the devices must be on the same Wi-Fi or network as the printer's computer. Second, on Windows, that network must be set to Private; the installer offers to change this. Third, some school or guest Wi-Fi blocks devices from talking to each other (called "client isolation"). If so, ask IT to turn it off for this network.
The address keeps changing.
Ask whoever runs the router to give the printer's computer a fixed address (a "DHCP reservation"). Or use the computer's name, which the admin page also shows, e.g. http://PCNAME:8631.
Does anything go through the internet or this website?
No. This website only hosts the installer. Your files go from the device straight to the printer's computer on your own network, and that computer deletes each file once it's printed.
How do I update or uninstall?
To update, run the same install command again; it keeps your settings. To uninstall:
The page says "Sent" but nothing printed.
On the printer's computer, open the admin page. Press Print test page, and check that the printer status says Normal and that the right printer is selected. If jobs are stuck, press Clear stuck jobs.
